Understanding White Privilege Pt. 3
This is part three of a four-part miniseries about understanding privilege. The goal of these videos is to use simple examples to jump-start an understanding of how privilege works, who it applies to, and what you can do to help even the playing field moving forward.
In this video, I take a detailed look at the similarities between myself and my friend Don. I'm doing this to show that regardless of how similar our lives are, there are huge differences based on how we look.
In this case, the advantage goes to him as a white male. Using personal examples and examples that you've probably seen in the media, I hope to drive the point home that White Privilege is a real thing that affects you regardless of how hard you work.
The point here is to get people to acknowledge their privilege, not to feel guilty, or feel ashamed of their whiteness. But rather, use it as a catalyst to encourage yourself and others to try to even the playing field so we can all thrive. Bringing other people up does not drag you down. Let me know what you think.
